Borneo: Part 2, Kuching cont.
Contributed by: Penny Sheltz on 6/4/2008

Next we visit the Sarawak Cultural Village, a living museum, that portrays the multi-faceted cultures and customs of ethnic groups such as the Ibans, Bidayuhs, and Melanaus. The Cultural Village is 20 miles from Kuching.

The Cultural Village had a manmade lake at the center surrounded by 7 authentic replicas of ethnic houses: the Bidayuh house and longhouse, the Iban longhouse, the Penan hut, the Orang Ulu longhouse, the Melanau Rumah Tinggi, the Malay house and the Chinese farmhouse. Displayed in each house are many artifacts made by individual dwellers.
We saw demonstrations of arts and crafts like beadworks, wood and bamboo carvings, pua weaving and straw weaving while touring the viillage.
We enjoyed the rich cultural heritage dances and music presented by various ethnic groups. The grand cultural show was performed in the Village theater.
