JUPITER FARMS ROAD - CLOSURE?
Contributed by: Neil Archer on 7/13/2008

As some of you will know, Jupiter Farms Road will be closed for ONE MONTH starting soon, to replace culverts.

This is the only information we know. Start dates, end dates and detour information is unknown, although we are told that work should be completed by mid-August 2008.

At the meeting at the Fire House on Thursday July 10th, County Commissioner Karen Marus said that she had only learned about the road closure 2 days ago.

The South Indian River Water Control District (whose depot is at the intersection of Jupiter Farms Road and Sandy Run) have not released sufficient information or notification to Jupiter Farms Residents and Businesses. They told on their website that they will be giving notice to Jupiter Farms Residents, however, this has not happened. The road closure is also NOT on the Palm Beach County website nor on the Florida Department of Transportation website:
http://www.sirwcd.org/news.html
http://www.pbcgov.com/newsroom/roads_closings.htm
http://www.dot.state.fl.us/publicinformationoffice/construc/district4pio/palmbeach.htm

The detour (from what we've learned) will be betweem 6 and 8 miles further for those residents that use Jupiter Farms Road on a daily basis, not to mention the businesses located on Jupiter Farms Road.

Businesses located on Jupiter Farms Road are 2 x Nurseries, the Feed Store, Jupiter Farms Lawn & Garden and Queen Mary British Pub. ALL will be very severely adversely affected by Jupiter Farms Road being totally closed for a whole month, in an economy that is already at its lowest for years.

The Fire House will also be badly affected. If an emergency occurs at Publix, it may be quicker to get response from town as opposed to the Fire House on Jupiter Farms Road. This is totally unacceptable. Live are at risk.

An EMERGENCY MEETING will be held in the beer garden of the Queen Mary British Pub this TuesdayJuly 15th at 7.00pm.

If the closure of Jupiter Farms Road will affect you in any way, please come to the Queen Mary on Tuesday and air your concerns. Officials from the SIRWCD will be there.

Thank you and we hope to see you there.
