Twenty children from the Church in the Farms Preschool participated this month in a Trike-A-Thon to benefit the world's premier pediatric cancer research center, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
For the second year in a row the Church in the Farms Preschoolers not only raised over $1,200, but learned about bike and toy safety through a week-long fun program that also provided parents information in safe behavior practices to ensure their child's well-being.
On April 2, these three- four- and five-year olds lined up their bikes and --with helmets on-- began the event in the church parking lot. Stop signs, street signs and cones guided the children past arrows on the cement. It was a lot of fun.
Following the event, Preschool Director, Sandra Spiegelhalter commented on its success,
"The kids did such a great job. We are all so proud of the skills they demonstrated with bike safety. A great big thank you to the volunteers who helped serve water and popsicles to the thirsty bicyclists. The theme this month with our curriculum is 'A friend loves at all times.' Proverb 17:17.
This was a great opportunity to apply what they've learned while benefiting other children God loves that are sick. Parents have not stopped telling me what an impression this participation with St. Jude has had on their child. This has been a wonderful organization to work with as an outreach mission of our Preschool Ministry."
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. It is a unique institution where researchers and physicians work together side-by-side. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fund-raising organization, through events such as Trike-A-Thon.
