Contributed by: Terry Barth, FSO-PA on 3/23/2008

If you're new to boating or just need a refresher, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be giving the About Boating Safely course on Saturday, April 19th from 8:45 am to 5 pm.

The "About Boating Safely" course is designed especially for the recreational boater to encourage safety on the water. Enjoy your boating experience more by learning the rules of the waterway. Learn how to identify potentially dangerous situations and how to manage them. Be aware of the waterway signs, markings, what they mean and how to negotiate them. Learn basic docking techniques, navigation rules and survival skills.

This course is State approved for those 21 and under to obtain their Florida State Boaters License. Also, many insurance companies offer a discount once the course has been taken and passed.

Courses are held at the Flotilla 58 Coast Guard Auxiliary Building at 1400 Seaway Drive, Fort Pierce Fl. 34949. There is a fee of $36.00 to cover materials. Additional family members are $10.00 per person.

To register, or for more information, call Stephanie at 772-579-3395 or Gary at 772-321-3041. Hope to see you there!
