PALM CITY, FL --- Hello. My name is Dr. Bruce Hansbrough. I am a board certified chiropractic physician. I recently established a new and improved website to help educate local community members about chiropractic and alternative care. The website, http://www.drhansbrough.com, provides visitors with more than 300 pages of chiropractic and health content. Information regarding how chiropractic care can help with headaches, neck and back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromylagia, and much more is furnished on the site. The website also allows you to take a closer look at me and my educational background and experience, office hours, and a map and directions to the practice. Visitors will find a professionally written, monthly patient education newsletter that provides the latest research studies on health. An animated exercise section, designed to guide patients with general neck and back exercises, can also be found on the site. The "Ask the Doctor" section allows visitors to e-mail me with any questions they have about health and chiropractic. I'm available for questions and can be reached by calling 772-288-6456. What's Going On With My Back?
Contributed by: Dr. Bruce Hansbrough   on 4/26/2006

PALM CITY, FL - Here we are getting into that summer feeling again. Of course, living here in Florida summer is almost always here. But hey, you want to have fun, right? But you can't because your back is killing you. A little horseback riding or day fishing isn't possible.

So what is going on with your back? Humans are the only mammals that spend much of the time on two extremities as opposed to four. We are in an upright position two thirds of the time including when we sit.

Well, that doesn't mean we have to start walking around like a cat or dog, but we should take care of our backs better. You know, the surgeons knife is not a pleasant thing to think about.

So what should you do? First of all, know that your body needs movement in order to survive. Therefore, the old saying "use it or lose it" applies here. You cannot continuously sit in a chair day five days without exercise, go out and spend six hours of gardening on Saturday and not expect your body to rebel. That's just beating yourself up.

Just get up out of chair at least every two hours, stretch, get a glass of water, at least for 15 minutes each time. You will be amazed at the difference it makes not only to your back but to your whole body and mind. That short break is refreshing. You feel more alert and effective at whatever you are doing.

If you want more tips on how you can prevent back and spinal problems or you need help with a back condition, log onto http://www.drhansbrough.com and click on the WELLNESS CENTER button. There's gobs of info. All of it is FREE!

Well, it's time for me to go. I must get back to work.
