Blog Entry 6 of 8 What You Really Need To Know About Your Health
PALM CITY, FL --- Hello. My name is Dr. Bruce Hansbrough. I am a board certified chiropractic physician. I recently established a new and improved website to help educate local community members about chiropractic and alternative care. The website, http://www.drhansbrough.com, provides visitors with more than 300 pages of chiropractic and health content. Information regarding how chiropractic care can help with headaches, neck and back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromylagia, and much more is furnished on the site. The website also allows you to take a closer look at me and my educational background and experience, office hours, and a map and directions to the practice. Visitors will find a professionally written, monthly patient education newsletter that provides the latest research studies on health. An animated exercise section, designed to guide patients with general neck and back exercises, can also be found on the site. The "Ask the Doctor" section allows visitors to e-mail me with any questions they have about health and chiropractic. I'm available for questions and can be reached by calling 772-288-6456. The Secret of Weight Loss? Lifestyle Change!
Contributed by: Dr. Bruce Hansbrough   on 7/31/2006

Well, sooner or later I was going to try it out. I've been reading about all the fitness diets and weight loss products. I've tried a few, but there was something most of them failed to deliver. A permanent change.

There are way too many advertisements that claim "quick weight loss," "10 Pounds In 2 Days," or the famous one-liner, "A Dollar Per Pound." My experience has taught me that these are kind of like get rich quick schemes (substitute lose pounds for get rich) and soon lose their luster when put to the long term results test.

What I have found that makes a real difference lies in why America is becoming fatter as a nation. Our love for fast food and processed meals. We are unconciously being programmed to buy food and snacks, consume them in large quantities, and then go out and buy and consume them again in even larger quantities (i.e., Super Size it!) And low fat this and low fat that isn't helping but creating confusion.

For those of you young enough to remember, there were few if any fat, diabetic, or asthmatic kids in the public schools of the 50s and 60s. There has been a proportional increase in the diagnosed cases of Type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease (i.e, elevated blood LDL cholesterol and trigycerides), and high blood pressure in America since the early 70s. Permanent weight loss revolves around controlling these risk factors. Lifestyte changes that address the "metabolic syndrome" as they are called are essential to have lasting effect. That's why the so-called yo-yo diets and qucik weight loss schemes rarely produce permament results.

I am so convinced that knowledge and understanding of the "Glycemic Index" is the key to permanent weight loss .. not calorie counting. Why? Because it makes sense, if you understand the basics of the body's physiology, how it utilizes fuel, and how hormones play a role in regulating metabolism. I decide that I should take the ultimate test and see for myself if lifestyle change habits versus quick weight loss techniques make a difference. Go to http://www.treasurecoastchiro.com/index.php?catID=4&pageID=7533 and click on Learn More about the Healthy and Fit For Life program.

It really makes a lot of sense. And I'll keep you posted on how I do. My waist is 34 inches right now. My goal is to get to 30 by the end of the year .. without strong cravings. Pray for me.
