What You Really Need To Know About Your Health
PALM CITY, FL --- Hello. My name is Dr. Bruce Hansbrough. I am a board certified chiropractic physician. I recently established a new and improved website to help educate local community members about chiropractic and alternative care. The website, http://www.drhansbrough.com, provides visitors with more than 300 pages of chiropractic and health content. Information regarding how chiropractic care can help with headaches, neck and back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromylagia, and much more is furnished on the site. The website also allows you to take a closer look at me and my educational background and experience, office hours, and a map and directions to the practice. Visitors will find a professionally written, monthly patient education newsletter that provides the latest research studies on health. An animated exercise section, designed to guide patients with general neck and back exercises, can also be found on the site. The "Ask the Doctor" section allows visitors to e-mail me with any questions they have about health and chiropractic. I'm available for questions and can be reached by calling 772-288-6456. Or you can e-mail at drhansbrough@drhansbrough.com.

As a chiropractic physician, my focus is on spinal health and the optimum nervous system. When a patient is out of balance in other areas such as poor eating habits, lack of activity, and stressful lifestyles, I have to be concerned. I can adjust the spine until the cows come home and it will make little difference if a patient continues to eat junk food, watch TV half the day, and worry about their bills. Little long term change will take place.
Now that I've tried this for myself, I see that "Healthy and Fit For Life" has a lot of promise and I'm only on the 4th week. I'm amazed. Everyday I see a little progress. Yes, I know many of you may say, "What are you concerned about with your 34 inch waist anyway?" It really isn't about that in the long term. But I want to give a tool to my patients who struggle with their health and weight.
Since I started "Healthy and Fit For Life" my energy has soared and I've lost another inch. I still have cravings I'm battling with. But they have become less intense. I believe within another month, they will fade into a nether world and completely go away. A year from now and I won't remember any. I'm learning that my own resistance to insulin has been creeping up as I have aged. I am no different than many of you who fight weight issues. I just have not gotten into the more serious stages of metabolic syndrome, which is elevated blood pressure, glucose, and lipids. My motivation is to not get there in the first place.
The danger in avoiding addressing lifestyles that lead to metabolic syndrome is their possible consequences: diabetes, atherosclerosis, cancer, immune disrders, neuropathies of all kinds, and a host of other chronic diseases. Understanding how the human body processes food and what you put into your body is so important in making a permanent healthy lifestyle change. If you followed my last entry, you'll remember the concern I have for people who get trapped into believing they can pay there way out of their fat quickly. Only to find out they haven't learned the cause of their weight in the first place.
I like to think that I'm healthy and can be a good role model for my patients. That's why I need to particpate if I am going to recommend the program. So far everything is moving in the right direction. It can only serve to give me more experience in what others who have tried and succeeded have experienced. I am convinced that once you understand and apply the principles in "Healthy and Fit For Life" I believe you'll see why many calorie counting and complex weight loss programs have a poor track record. If you ask the average person to tell you what a calorie is, they can't. The key is understanding how the body chemistry works. And it really isn't that hard to understand.
* Eat right - buy whole foods, avoid processed carbs
* Get active - exercise, get rid of your TV
* Take high quality nutritional supplements - your "insurance policy" against disease
It's simple to understand and very basic in concepts. The challenge is committing to discipline yourself and work the program a little at a time.
