Dark Chocolate is Health Food!

In my last blog (8/21/08) I promised to explain what antioxidants are all about relative to eating Xocai - The Healthy Chocolate.

What are antioxidants and why should we care? Antioxidants are molecules which prevent the damaging effects of oxygen free radicals in our bodies. So then, what is a free radical? A free radical is an atom with an unpaired electron in the outermost shell and causes oxidation in our bodies. Examples of oxidation are bananas turning brown when left on the counter top, or the rusting of iron.

Our bodies go through the same process every day. As we breathe, eat, sleep, exercise, our body experiences oxidation. This is the cause of aging and more than 200 degenerative diseases. With the help of antioxidants, you can greatly reduce the number of free radicals in your body!

No one can avoid free radicals completely; they are a part of your daily life. Some people are exposed to even more free radicals from cigarette smoking orair pollution.
