In past years, the Martin County community has kindly and generously supported the HOMS Chorus Department. For the 2 nd year, the event will be attended by over 400 people, and will raise much needed revenue for the award-winning programs. This is the only fundraiser that is done by the HOMS Chorus Department, with your generous support; the students have been featured on WQCS NPR, and performed at; Festivals, Dedication services and Community Concerts.
Additionally, both the Jubilee Singers and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble participate in District, State, and National Competitions. It is through the generous support of our Booster programs, parents, volunteers, sponsors and donors like you, that we are able to pay for competition fees, equipment, music, transportation and other necessities to keep these high-quality programs available to our students.
Why do we need music education? [Part Three]
Researchers in Leipzig discovered through the use of brain scans that musicians had larger planum temporale, the region of the brain associated with reading skills. Also, musicians had a thicker corpus callosum, the nerve fibers that connect the two halves of the brain.

"A grounding in the arts will help our children to see; to bring a uniquely human perspective to science and technology. In short, it will help them as they grow smarter to also grow wiser.

"In every successful business...there is one budget line that never gets cut. It's called 'Product Development' - and it's the key to any company's future growth. Music education is critical to the product development of this nation's most important resource - our children." - John Sykes - President, VH1
