HOMS Chorus Tri-M Music Honor Society Inductions!
PALM CITY, FLORIDA - On Monday, September 14, 2009 the Hidden Oaks Middle School (HOMS) Chorus inducted 22 students to the new Chapter 6031 Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Principal Jenny Lambdin and HOMS Chorus Director,
Natalia Douris were pleased to have the opportunity to accept so many young women as part of the new Chapter. Students were selected on the basis of not only participation in one of the Choral programs at HOMS, but also regarding her demonstration of the three "M's" of the Tri-M mission: Modern, Music, Masters. Each student has also demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, leadership abilities, and music proficiency, meeting the criteria as a Tri-M candidate for student membership. As "masters" each student will now have increased opportunities to serve her school, set a good example, and strive to better themselves in music.
Moreover, each Tri-M member realizes that real honor brings responsibility, where she has pledged,
"the members of the HOMS music department, in order to foster a greater continued interest and desire for excellence in music performance, to encourage appreciation and awareness in listening to music, to promote wider opportunities for sharing joy through music both within our school and within our community; to advance the spirit of good music and musical knowledge; and to enhance the reputation of our school as a center for musical enrichment; each student has accepted the honor granted", to her; and will proudly wear her Tri-M pin that she will receive at the end of the first year of service.
Tri-M was founded in 1936 by
Alexander and
Frances Harley, incorporated and renamed Modern Music Masters in 1952, and recognized in 1983 as the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a program of MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
