HOMS Chorus Students Participate in Male Honor Choir!

PALM CITY, FLORIDA - On October 9th & 10th three Hidden Oaks Middle School students will participate in the Male Honor Choir workshops and performance at Seminole Community College in Sanford, Florida. Students, Michael Arechabala, Casey Morris, and Connor Morris, were selected to participate in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on the merits of their talent, dedication and commitment to better themselves. The Male Honor Choir consists of 300+ boys from around the state, and this is Michael's 3rd year participating, (he was accepted in 6th grade), which is a prestigious honor. Students are rarely accepted that young. HOMS is very proud of all three of these fine young men.

Our thanks and gratitude to the Choral Department at Seminole Community College for their hospitality, and warm reception from the student volunteers who helped guide the Middle and High School students through the campus, lunches, and on with their studies. The two-day workshop and performance is an opportunity of a lifetime for the talented and dedicated students of Hidden Oaks Middle School. Moreover, the students have been diligently rehearsing under the direction of Ms. Natalia Douris for the past several weeks. The students, ranging from 7th to 8th grade, were excited about this opportunity to perform several technically challenging arrangements, and act as the representatives for the award-winning Hidden Oaks Middle School in the Chorus for the Middle School performing ensemble. As an added feature to the educational aspect of this event, each of the Middle School students was also afforded the rare gift of performing with High School students as well.

Additionally, select students will also participate Monday, October 26th , in the second round of All-State auditions. Over 75 local, area high school students will participate in the auditions, as well as 10 HOMS students. Thanks are in order for the outstanding example set by the HOMS Tri-M Music Honor Society with their help in hosting the event for the District. HOMS should be very proud! Both annual events represent children auditioning to be considered as the best Middle School and High School student vocal performers in the state. Students who qualify will move forward in the process to have the honor to be invited to perform with the 2010 All State Conference in Tampa early in 2010.

Historically, Hidden Oaks Middle School has had excellent representation in both events, and we are confident that with so many hopeful candidates for the All State event, we will again be celebrating the accomplishments of students. In conclusion, the HOMS Choral Department will be kicking off their cheesecake fundraiser, at 6:00p.m., Monday, October 12, 2009, at their Booster Meeting. Parental, student, and community support is greatly appreciated. Thank you for supporting our children.
