STUART, FL
. - Despite a few rumbles of thunder, on Thursday, August 20, 2009, over 60 golfers participated in the 3rd Annual Treasure Coast Golf Tournament to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk on October 2, 2009. The golfers enjoyed breakfast at 7:00a, golf and lunch from 8a - 2p. Moreover, they had the chance to play the links at Summerfield's Champions Club. The 18-hole "Champions Club" course at the Champions Club at Summerfield facility in Stuart is under new management, and features 6,809 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.8 and it has a slope rating of 131 on grass. Designed by

, Inc. for the closest to the pin on a selected par 3!
Later in the afternoon; despite the remnants of Tropical depression Ana passing the day before, and Hurricane Bill churning in the Eastern Atlantic, over 350 people joined in the 5 th Annual
"Hot Caribbean Night" Wine Tasting and Business Networking event. Guests appreciated that Island attire was encouraged, since the very warm evening definitely made for a "Caribbean" atmosphere! Additionally, guests enjoyed the celebration that featured over 68 different wines, and featured food pairings from a number of local restaurants, including; Carrabba's, Finz, Harborage Yacht Club & Marina, an Affair to Remember Catering, Atlanta Bread Company, and Big Slice Pizza. There was great island music by
Tropical Soul, a raffle with over 110 items, silent auction with over 40 wonderful items, and networking opportunity for the entire community. Patrons tried wines that were organic, exotic carambola wine, and the wares of four other wineries. Our congratulations to
Frank LeBlanc for winning the 4-day, 3-night trip to Abacoe (complete with boat dockage) courtesy of Harborage Yacht Club & Marina! Our very special thanks must be extended to
John Pierson's Toyota of Stuart, and Diamonds by
Terry, as well as the Green sponsors; Fogel Capital Management,
Glenn Webber,
Esq., Searle Associates, Brian's Auto Repair, WellMED Homecare,
James Willis, D.D.S., P.S., and the Hutchinson Island Marriott Resort & Marina.
Additionally, 28+ guests took advantage of the VIP Wine Tasting and food pairing that was held inside the air conditioning, and organized by
Jim Peppler, UBS Financial (also a certified Italian Sommelier). This portion of the event featured 5 very special wine selections and food pairings by
Chef Mark from Harborage Yacht Club & Marina. The VIP event was generously provided by
Anthony Greco, of A. Greco's Automotive, and delighted patrons were afforded the rare opportunity to listen to certified Sommelier,
Theo Snyder from Total Wines and More.
Annie Greco, pianist, provided just the right musical ambiance. For a complete list of sponsors, donors and all of those big-hearted individuals that gave of their time, talent and treasures to make this the "hottest" year yet for the event, and raise over $8,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk, please see the group's website at: www.treasurecoastleukemia.com.
