Girl Scouts in action
Contributed by: Susan Banks on 10/26/2009

Junior Girl Scout Troop 30357 worked as ambassadors for South Florida Water Management and educated the public on reusable shopping bags helping to earn their "Eco Action" badge on October 23.

Gardenia Banks- Long at South Florida Water Management assisted the girls by giving them hundreds of faucet aerators and shower timers along with valuable information on saving our water supply.

Troop leaders Joann Gallagher and Susan Banks also enlisted the help of the Martin Highway Publix in Palm City. Publix donated green bags for the girls to give away along with facts like "the average family uses 60 bags in just 4 trips to the grocery store" and "one reusable bags has the potential to save over 1000 plastic bags over it's lifetime." Publix also set up a display showing a visual of 175 gallons to represent the amount of water that the average person uses each day.

The girls each learned an "eco fact' and quickly took to educating anyone who had time to listen. Many people were impressed with the information the girls related to them and left with a better understanding of the importance of saving our resources.
