Local Animal Clinic Holds Fundraiser to Benefit Humane Society of the Treasure Coast

Palm City, FL - The Palm City Animal Clinic (PCAC) and Snips and Snoozes recently held its sixth annual dog wash during National Pet Week to benefit the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC). Volunteers washed more than 100 dogs, which raised $2,000 for the shelter.

"I started the event because of national pet week and it's a good way to raise money awareness for the field, the HSTC and the clinic," said Dr. Rex Sentell, owner of the PCAC and Snips and Snoozes. "I've done a good amount of work for the HSTC over the years and they're a great charity to help out."

The open house at the PCAC, 3090 SW Mapp Road, provided dog washes and flea protection treatments for a $10 recommended donation. There were raffles for prizes including flea protection, dog food, baskets of pet products and a gift bag from Jack Nicklaus' line of golf products. The total prize value for the raffle items was estimated at $1,500.

Along with the dog wash, a number of second grade Palm City students participated in an art contest. One student from each second grade class at Palm City Elementary, Bessey Creek Elementary and Citrus Grove Elementary won a $20 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble®.

This was the clinic's most successful fundraiser, made possible by HSTC volunteers, the PCAC clinic staff and sponsors, including Eventmakers International, Advanced Printing, Webster Veterinary Supply, Butler Animal Health, Pfizer, Purina, Hill's Science Diet and Merial Pharmaceutical.

"This years' event was about two and a half times more successful than previous years," said Kyle Buchanan, hospital administrator for the PCAC. "We definitely plan on doing it again next year."

Since 1955, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, located at 4100 SW Leighton Farm Avenue in Palm City, has been the leading advocate for animal welfare in the Martin County area. A 501©3 private, nonprofit organization, the Humane Society relies on donations to support its programs and services. As a local Humane Society, HSTC is independently run from any national welfare or humane organization with no financial assistance from these groups.
