Few restaurants are closely associated with delis, so LogOn took a trip to Palm City to try out
M & M’s Restaurant and Deli
.
M & M’s is one of several restaurants in Village Center. The sign hanging over M & M’s and the exterior of the building don’t do much to set it apart from the other dining establishments and stores in the shopping center, but the food has its own distinctive style.
The atmosphere at M & M’s feels relaxing and informal. Customers can seat themselves when they enter the restaurant, and most are dressed casually. The place mats at the tables feature a map with “Florida’s Best Beaches” and ads for local businesses, and paintings from local artists hang on one of the walls.
The lunch crowd had taken most of the tables when I arrived just before noon. Several people sat along the walls in booths with red seats and fading white paint. I grabbed a seat at a small table near the front of the restaurant, where I could look out the window or observe other customers.
M & M’s serves breakfast fare even at the late-morning time I showed up, so anyone in the mood for eggs around noon would be in luck. Breakfast for lunch was tempting, but I wanted to go with a regular lunch. Fortunately, M & M’s has plenty of burgers and sandwiches on the menu, too.
I ordered a Coke (75 cents) and an open-faced turkey sandwich ($6.95). While I waited for my sandwich, the waitress brought me a large deli pickle to snack on. I cut it down the middle and ate half, trying to save my room for my meal.
My open-faced sandwich arrived a few minutes later. The diner classic came with thinly sliced turkey on top of white bread and covered in gravy. I got a double serving of mashed potatoes and gravy on the side, replacing the cole slaw that normally comes with the meal.
I left the Palm City restaurant about 45 minutes after I entered, full on a deli favorite and thinking about coming back.
