The Martin County North Little League Girls 9-10 Softball All-stars are packing their gear and heading to Tallahassee for the State of Florida Little League All-star final games. This brings Martin County North their first team of boys or girls to travel onto the State Championships. The talented girls are Morgan Callea, Jaime Chamberlin, Danielle Dodge, Gianna Izzolo, Holly Jones, Hanna Lambros, Connie Madden, Courtney Noonan, Sam Noonan, Nicole Olivieri and Courtney Tompkins.
The team of girls competed in Sectional II tournaments this past weekend against Viera/Suntree at the Fred Lee field in Palm Bay. The first game on Saturday, July 15th was a battle of the bats as Martin County edged Viera 10-7. Gianna Izzolo pitched the winning game bringing Martin County one game closer to the title. The second game looked like Martin County was going to walk away as Holly Jones kept Viera to no runs and Gianna Izzolo bombed a home run taking MCN to an 8-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Viera/Suntree slowly chipped away at the MCN defense and scored 10 runs over the next 3 innings to bring the MCN team back to Palm Bay for one more game on Sunday.
Martin County North came back without hesitation to claim the sectional title and head to Tallahassee. Courtney Noonan came out tough and pitched all 6 innings giving up 1 run late in the 6 th inning. The strong defense of MCN shut down Viera's hitting ending the game at 10-1. There wasn't one girl on the team that didn't have a shinning moment the whole tournament. They all took turns doing their part and looking like they were a winning collegiate team.
"Who Ha" to the girls as manager Joe Marasa would say! Let's bring home the State Championship! The team couldn't be complete without Coaches Al Olivieri and extra help from Dennis Dodge and Mike Izzolo.
The team plays Friday July 21st at 6:00pm, Saturday July 22 at 10:00am and Sunday July 23rd at 1:00pm and the final game on Tuesday.
