Chargers take 2nd at charity softball tournament
Contributed by: Paula Chamberlin on 1/23/2007

The Treasure Coast Chargers U12 softball team traveled to North Palm Beach on Sunday January 21st to play some exciting softball. During the teams 12 hour day they played four, at the edge of your seat, softball games. Two of the three wins by the chargers ended in tie breakers. The PBGYAA Softball program held a friendly softball tournament as a fund raiser to assist Bob Diskant with medical expenses associated with his recent lung cancer surgery.

The young U12 team of Lauren Ashe, Jaime Chamberlin, Jen Chamberlin, Jada Cox, Kacey Ioia, Paige Ervine, Gracie Johnston, Hanna Lambros, Nicole McHenry, Sarah Rider, Catherine Rizzuti, Michaela Sihler, Brittani Svenson and Kacey Fitzpatrick, played their hearts out to show the fans why they love softball. Each girl had their shinning moment and in the end were proud, but tired to have finished with a second place trophy. The proudest of all were the Sihler's, Glenn and Yolanda who formed the team this past fall. The team was coached by Andre Lambros and Larry Benning.

In the seeding game against Boyton Beach Lady Bandits, Kacey Fitzpatrick pitched a strong first game only allowing 3 runs. The heavy hitting of Lauren Ashe, Nicole McHenry, Paige Ervine and Jada Cox gave the girls 5 runs to win the game. In the first regulation game the team once again faced the Boyton Beach Lady Bandits in one of the toughest games played. Michaela Sihler came out pitching with all the guns and kept the game to a low score. With the score tied the girls were faced with a Texas tie breaker to win the game. The next game against Palm Beach Gardens looked doomed for the Chargers when they were down a few runs. But once again the heavy hitters pulled out all the stops to tie up the game and face off with another Texas tie breaker. During the tie breaker Palm Beach Gardens went up 2 with the Chargers batting last. Withtwo runners on base, Nicole McHenry bombs a shot to the left field corner scoring the winning run to take her team to the finals. Kasey Ioia was the relief pitcher to help keep the Chargers in the game.

After being at the fields all day the Chargers were ready to win the tournament and went out scoring first. They stayed up 1-0 for 3 innings playing tough defense. The game turned for the chargers and they never were able to recover handing Pembroke Lakes Bandits a tournament win.

The U14 Chargers also played and finished a strong 5th place out of 10 teams in there division.

If you would like to see some fun and exciting softball play come see the Chargers U12 and U14 teams on March 4th at Langford Park in Jensen Beach. There they hope to take the Championship trophy during the Splash tournament.
