The 9-10 Martin County North Little League Softball and the 11-12 MCNLL softball won the district 17 championship Tuesday night. Both teams were undefeated and will move on to the Sectional championships on July 12 and 13 in Palm Bay against Viera Suntree Little League.
The 9-10 team of Jordan Bessette, Holly Brickson, Jen Chamberlin, Cheyenne East, Kalie Feiertag, Natalie Groth, Gina Kenney, Kim Keyser, Christiana Marasa, Brooke Noonan, Arianna Pellegrino and Cheyenne Weese played tough against their district 17 opponents Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie National.
The first game against Vero Beach on opening day Saturday, June 26th, was a pitchers dual. Pitcher Christiana Marasa allowed no runs and the strong bat of Jen Chamberlin gave MCN the only hit of the game that allowed them to score 2 runs along with great base running by Holly Brickson to score another.
The second game against Port St. Lucie National showcased Martin Countys hitting with strong at bats from Cheyenne Weese and Kim Keyser to give the team a 20 - 9 win. Strong in field play by Holly Brickson and Brooke Noonan shut down PSL Nationals run in the 4th.
Securing the two wins, MCN was sitting pretty for the finals. In the first game of the finals Christiana Marasa again allowed no runs and no hits as she pitched another no run game. Strong bats allowed MCN to score 7 runs and on to the championship game.
In the final game MCN girls band together to stop the strong Vero Beach team from trying to take their championship win from them. In the final 8-7 win MCN stopped Vero Beaches rally with a great catch in the outfield by JoJo Bessette, a smart play by Christiana Marasa at first base and a final strike out by Jen Chamberlin with a runner on 3rd base.
The 11-12 MCNLL softball team of Lauren Anderson, Suzanne Brickson, Morgan Callea, Jaime Chamberlin, Megan Curivan, Mackenzie Barton, Danielle Dodge, Gianna Izzolo, Holly Jones and Jessica Utter played tough against their opponents Port Salerno, PSL AM, PSL National, PSL SW, Sebastian and Vero Beach.
In the first game against Pt. Salerno, Gianna Izzolo pitched an awesome game to give MCN a 7-2 victory. The team made it to the finals after they crushed PSL Am 16-2. Pitcher Holly Jones Kept her apponents to very few runs while MCN showed off their hitting to advance their team.
In the finals, MCN only needed 3 undefeated games to become the area district champs. In the first game against Sebastian they won 5-1, second game against Vero Beach they won 8-1 and in the championship game they beat Sebastian 4-3.
