The Disney Memorial Day Shootout Tournament held at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Walt Disney World is one of the biggest tournaments in the state and attracts highly competitive teams from all over Florida. A fantastic weekend in soccer culminated into a very exciting final game for the Treasure Coast United U12 Boys. While TCU just missed out on the win,the team fought all the way and stayed extremely competitive against the #5 team in the state - Orange County Strikers.
There were 16 teams in the U12 boys division; many teams were "premier" teams and many were ranked tops in the state. Prior to making the championship game, TCU played four games, went undefeated and did not give up any goals. After beating a top ranked team from Sarasota in the semi-finals, the championship game was determined. In the final game, the first half was exceptionally exciting with the score of Orange County 3 and TCU 2. With just minutes to go in the first half, TCU scored what appeared to be the tying goal only to have it called back on an offside call. In the second half, the two teams battled back and forth but in the end TCU fell just a little short.
The team is made-up of 11 and 12 year-old boys and is coached by the most accredited trainers on the Treasure Coast. Treasure Coast United competitive soccer teams are taught Coerver Coaching teaching methods at every practice. Players learn ball control, passing and "running off the ball" before any tactics. And these methods certainly paid off as the results were showcased with each game played.
Members of the TCU U12 Boys playing in the tournament include: John Higgins, Austin Tagner, Tyler Brenner, Hunter Pritchard, Diego Rodriguez, Logan Radford, Sam Waronicki, Jonathon Sloan, Cane Elliott, Jon Gonzolez, Reilee Mohsin. Other team members not able to play include Shane Laychur (out with a broken arm) and Scott Mulligan. The team is managed by Kevin Higgins and Jenny Laychur. Kevin, Jenny and the trainers are preparing the boys for next season. Good luck boys!
