The Elliott Museum in cooperation with The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast will present,
"Dig It!" a traveling field trip that explores archaeology, the Ais Indians (Hutchinson Island's earliest native American inhabitants), maps and navigation, and Jonathan Dickinson's Journal. Each tour includes a "hands on" talk, with the choice of one project including pottery making, creating a beaded necklace, or map making. The program costs $4.00 per child and additional projects may be added for an additional fee of $2.00 per activity. This special project is offered throughout the summer to camps, school groups and groups of children. The activities would also be appropriate for children's parties where learning and fun could easily be combined. The Junior League of Martin County and the SouthEast Florida Archaeological Society helped create and support the program. To schedule a group of children, call Heidi May at 772-225-1961, ext. 107.
The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast is renovating the Chapel/Auditorium building in Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach. The first phase of the museum will be open early in 2008. With a mission to offer children and families a place to explore and learn through hands-on, interactive activities, the Children's Museum exhibits will reflect the unique character of our area.
