Safe, Sober & Entertained...that was the point of SFHS Project Graduation Event, May 25th from 10:00 pm - 5:30 am. 278 seniors from South Fork High School came together after graduation at the Martin County Fairgrounds to spend one last night together in a safe and sober environment. The theme was a beach bash complete with beach volleyball, frisbees, a bonfire and other tropical delights.
The event, put on by parents and community volunteers from South Fork High School, along with the Project Graduation Foundation, featured a DJ, dance floor, volleyball, food all night long, a hypnotist, and prizes given away throughout the night with the grand prizes of $1000 scholarship to IRCC to Sarah Brown and $3500 cash to Derek Power given away at 5:30 am. Laptops, iPods, a fishing trip, gas cards and other prizes kept things interesting throughout the night. In the end, every student who stayed throughout the night went home with something!
The event would not have been possible without the support of over 80 parents, South Fork staff, and community members, providing chaperon and other volunteer duties all night long. Project Graduation is able to exist because of generous donations from the community. Everything from prizes, to beverages, to decorations, to services were donated by members of the community who believe in this event. Food was provided by
Shells
,
Atlanta Bread
,
Cracker Barrel of Stuart
,
Beef O'Brady's
,
Robert Erneston Produce Co
, and
Stuart Fine Foods
. Please be sure to thank these fine establishments for their donations. First United Methodist Church provided a popcorn maker and supplies to go along with the movie room.
This is a wonderful annual event put on by the three traditional high schools on the night of their respective graduations. Planning for next year is already underway. If you would like to be a part of this fantastic event, contact your high school. The contact for South Fork for the 2006-2007 event is Heidi McNabb 286-2741.
Project Graduation
is truly a community event that has grown beyond the boundaries of any one school. Showing the true spirit of cooperation, the decorations for the event were the result of a consortium of volunteers from
South Fork
,
Martin County
, and
Jensen Beach High
working together on a common theme that could be used for all three events. This group effort resulted in a fantastic event each night, and spread the work around. In future years, this spirit of cooperation among the schools will spread to other areas of the event and result in an even more fabulous event for our high school seniors.
