PORT SALERNO, Florida- October 12, 2007/ Why wait all night in a damp pumpkin patch, like Linus in the Charlie Brown comic strip, hoping to catch a glimpse of this vegetable of mythic proportion when you can see the Great Pumpkin at Indian River Mall? The Great Pumpkin, weighing approximately 800 pounds, will be arriving on Monday, October 22.
The Great Pumpkin was grown by part-time Vero Beach resident Tom Adams, who spends his summers in Wesleyville, Pennsylvania. Adams has been growing gargantuan gourds in his backyard since 1999, and entering Pennsylvania state's giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off ever since. According to Adams, "At the height of growing season, a pumpkin gains around 30 pounds per day. One plant alone requires 70 gallons of water on a daily basis." He estimates that he devotes about four hours a day tending to his pumpkins. Adams is currently en route from Pennsylvania with two giant pumpkins in tow.
For more information about the pumpkin, contact Tom Adams at (772) 564-0899 after October 17.
"We invite people of all ages to see the Great Pumpkin this year at Indian River Mall," said Ursula Gunter, Director of Mall Marketing, Indian River Mall. The pumpkin will be arriving on October 22, and will be on display through October 31.
For more information, contact Gunter at (772) 770-9404.
Indian River Mall is a single level super regional enclosed shopping center located on State Road 60, 3.5 miles east of I-95. Anchors include Dillard's, JCPenney,
Macy's, and Sears. Indian River Mall is owned and operated by Simon Property Group, Inc.
