Contributed by: Kimberly Banta on 7/3/2007

STUART, Florida/June 28, 2006 - Bianca Kahlenberg, 17, a senior at South Fork High School and daughter of Arthur and Susan Kahlenberg, has been selected to serve on the National Youth Council for the American Red Cross. The National Youth Council consists of only 18 members nationwide. Up to 16 members, including Ms. Kahlenberg, were selected through the National Nomination Process and the Chair of the Disaster and Chapter Services Committee of the Board of Governors.

According to Mary Sawyer, Executive Director, American Red Cross Martin County Chapter, "This is an extremely high honor to have our Chapter Youth organization represented at the national level of the American Red Cross. Bianca will have the opportunity to consult, advise, and advocate on behalf of young adults nationwide."

Ms. Kahlenberg will serve on the National Youth Council for the American Red Cross for three years. "I am very excited to represent Martin County youth, our Chapter, and youth from around the nation," said Kahlenberg. "My goal, and that of other youth on the National Council, will be to unleash the potential of America's youth and capitalize on their ability to grow Red Cross as an organization."

Members of the National Youth Council for the Red Cross must have demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills, organizational and planning skills, and have a thorough understanding of the overall American Red Cross organization. "Bianca has demonstrated all of these skills and abilities through her participation in every aspect of our local Chapter's operations," concluded Sawyer.

Ms. Kahlenberg's parents share the Chapter's pride and excitement regarding the appointment to the National Council. "Bianca's accomplishments with the Red Cross are a true reflection of her dedication and hard work, and we are extremely proud of her," said Mrs. Susan Kahlenberg.

The National Youth Council will meet four times each year and hold regular conference calls on youth related topics. Additionally, members participate in regional, national, and local meetings or in youth initiative assignments as needed. Members of the Council serve without compensation.

The American Red Cross Martin County Chapter Youth Leadership program and the many services it provides for Martin County residents are funded totally by local donations. If you would like to assist the youth of today become tomorrow's leaders, giving opportunities are available at a variety of levels.
