An active way to jumpstart a new relationship just in time for the holiday season
Traditionally, the holidays are a time of happiness and cheer, a time spent with family and friends. However, for many singles, it can be just the opposite, and if you're one of those singles, you are not alone.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau's "facts and features" section, there were 95.9 million single adults over the age of 18 as of 2008, A group that comprises of 43 percent of all U.S. residents in that age group.
"Single people dread the holidays, they dread another family member asking why they can't find someone," explained Cori Christenson, Director of Two Of Us, a local matchmaking service. "They want to meet someone, kiss someone under the mistletoe, or when the clock strikes midnight on New Years."
In some cases, there is no way for singles to avoid becoming depressed during the holiday season.
"These people are lonely by themselves at home, and when they go out, feel even lonelier after seeing so many couples together."
For example, single parents may be particularly vulnerable, explained Christenson. Single parents tend to lead lives that revolve around their children, without ever realizing how much work their own lives need, she said. "If they meet the right person that will make them happy, it'll also be someone who is going to be a good role model for their children."
Ms. Christenson recalls one client in particular who told her that she was so lonely that even her 13 year old child encouraged her to meet someone.
Seniors are another group who may be in a vulnerable position. "If you think about it, as a senior, you're living by yourself, you may be retired, your children may live in another state, and you do not have a lot of exposure to meet new people." Ms. Christenson said. "Our service gives seniors a chance to meet people who are compatible in their age group, that they would not have the opportunity to meet anywhere else."
Two Of Us matchmaking service can empower singles to make a change by taking their lives into their own hands, and proactively seek a meaningful relationship now, not procrastinating and waiting for it to magically happen.
"Holiday time is usually our busiest time, because it really peaks a lot of emotions for single people, and it really motivates them to make a change in their life now." Ms. Christenson said.
Two Of Us requires members to undergo a criminal background check, so that potential dates can rest assured that their match is single, stable (emotionally and financially) and serious about finding a lifetime partner.
Members go through an extensive interview to discuss personality qualities and physical build of their ideal mate. They are matched according to common interests as well.
So why not find someone special to share the holidays with. Two Of Us can help because life is too short, precious, and exciting to be living it alone.
