Christmas Traditions
Contributed by: Doreen Ryan on 11/20/2006

When our family first moved to Florida we found it hard to maintain our traditional Christmas. We left most of our relatives behind in New York. It never seemed liked Christmas when the weather was so warm.

Our traditional Christmas had involved our families and we always had a full house for the holidays. So we started a new tradition of inviting our children's friends and their families to an open house on Christmas Eve.

It turned out to be a wonderful experience. It gave me a chance to get to know my children's friends and their families. This goes a long way in getting involved in your children's lives.

Now our children are away at college. Each year our Christmas Eve open house becomes a reunion. All the children that went in different directions get to see each other again. All the adults that spent 100's of hours together at sporting events get to reminisce.

This is now our Christmas tradition.
