Team YPOP Ready for Relay for Life WPB
Contributed by: Laurie V. Steele on 5/6/2008

Members of the Young Professionals of the Palm Beaches (YPOP) with the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches are geared up and ready for a night of fun and fundraising under the stars for the inaugural Relay for Life® - Downtown West Palm Beach which will take place June 6-7 at the Meyer Amphitheatre. Team Captain Shaun Hall with Seacoast Embroidery has recruited members Scott Deckard with The Brickman Group, Zach Chittum with Sherman Williams, Stephanie Prince with ESPN Radio, Maritza Clark with Lion Country Safari and Tim Sheridan with the Kind Foundation. Recently the team held a fund-raiser at Blue Martini and raised their entry fee and a few a hundred dollars toward their overall goal. Mayor Lois Frankel is the 2008 Honorary Chair and she will welcome all participants, volunteers and survivors at the opening ceremonies which begin at 6 p.m.

Relay For Life®is a fun-filled overnight experience designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer. At the relay, people from within the downtown West Palm Beach community will gather to celebrate survivors, remember those lost to cancer, and to fight back against this disease. Relay participants help raise money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society in its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health issue. The event is held overnight to represent the fact that cancer never sleeps. Through the survivors' lap and the Luminaria ceremony, we will honor the people who have faced cancer first hand, and we remember those who have been lost.

For more information about Relay for Life® Downtown West Palm Beach please contact the American Cancer Society at 561.366.0013 or visit our event website at www.events.cancer.org/rflwpbfl. Teams are now forming and sponsorships are still available.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.
