Founded in 1992 by executive director, Christina Merrill, The Bone Marrow Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients and their families by providing financial aid, education and emotional support. The Foundation was created to respond to the critical gap in financial coverage for patient support services. The Patient Aid Program has assisted thousands of patients with the cost of donor searches, compatibility testing, bone marrow harvesting, medications, home and childcare services, medical equipment, transportation, cord blood banking, and housing expenses associated with the transplant. The Foundation currently accepts applications for aid from over fifty bone marrow transplant centers throughout the United States.
