Palm Beach Gardens, FL -- Senior volunteers took center stage at the Area Agency on Aging's 16th Annual Prime Time Awards Breakfast on May 17th at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott. With more than 200 guests in attendance, awards were presented in six categories.
Nominations for outstanding senior volunteers were received from organizations and individuals throughout Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties. The six award categories included: The Shalloway & Shalloway Elder Advocate Award; the Sterling Mortgage SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Volunteer Award; the Mangrove Bay Service to Seniors Award; the Wachovia School Volunteer Award; the Florida Power & Light Community Service Award, and the Humana Good Neighbor Award.
The Shalloway & Shalloway Elder Advocate Award was presented to
Mr. Larry Butcher, who was selected by Governor Jeb Bush to serve on the State's Alzheimer's Disease Initiative Advisory Committee. Larry tirelessly serves as a volunteer in numerous critical capacities at Alzheimer's Community Care.
The
Sterling Mortgage SHINE Volunteer Award was presented to
Mr. Moses Baskin by
Ramona Barbagallo. Moe, as he is known, represents the spirit of volunteerism as he demonstrates the commitment and dedication it takes to lead a team of SHINE volunteer counselors and coordinators for the past five years as Area Coordinator for Palm Beach County.
The
Mangrove Bay Service to Seniors Award was presented by
Nancy Fagnano, Director of Community Relations for Mangrove Bay, to
Mr. Manuel Delgado. Manuel was nominated for the award by Beverly Bernstein of Alzheimer's Community Care. Manuel is a Senior Companion at Alzheimer's Community Care's Greenacres Specialized Adult Day Care Center where he has given 5,963 hours of volunteer service.
The
Wachovia School Volunteer Award was presented to
Mrs. Jeanie Sanders of
Tequesta, by Ms.
Elizabeth Arevalo, Vice President of Marketing for Wachovia, in Palm Beach County. Grandma Jeanie, as she is affectionately known, has been volunteering at Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School for the past six years touching the lives of children, faculty and members of the community.
The
Florida Power & Light Company Community Service Award was presented to
Ms. Beverly Perham of Wellington. Beverly was described as the powerhouse that single handedly gave virtual reality to Palm Beach County, St. Lucie County and Martin County's core values of improving children's self esteem by starting the non-profit,
Back to Basics Angel Program.
The
Humana Good Neighbor Award was presented by
Mr. Edwin Davis III of Humana, Inc. to
Dr. Frances Seidman of West Palm Beach. Exemplifying the good neighbor philosophy, Frances selflessly gives of her time and effort to improve the quality of life not only for seniors, but for children as well.
