Blog Entry 4 of 8 Am I the only one noticing this?
This is where I will occasionally write about things that just don't seem right. You know, writing more gun laws, the Governor blaming teachers for the mistakes of parents, sidewalks along A1A, banning salt...etc

This is a repost that was removed by the editor. I suspect for the photographic content. If it disappears a second time, I'll have to suspect something different.

First I would like to say for the record, I still get nervous and slightly uncomfortable around police. Not because I have something to hide, or because I have managed for years to hide some chronic criminal history. I get nervous because I was brought up to respect and obey the law and those who enforce it. Maybe some of you "Mature" folks out there understand what I mean.

Having said that (you know when that expression is used, there is some reason to be aprehensive about the next words spoken, typed or written). I would like to know two things about the characteristics of many, if not all law enforcement officers.

1) Why can't the law enforcement professionals use their friggin turn signals? What is going on inside that cruiser that is so important that a simple flick of the wrist is too much trouble? (This may be answered with item 2) I always simply assumed they were on some sort of secret patrol and their use of those little sticks poking out of the steering wheel would compromise an ongoing investigation, stake out or even a pursuit. Maybe it's part of a master deception plan to keep us "civilians" from knowing who they are really after. Unfortunately, I suspect it's a merely simple case of lazy, inconsiderate driver syndrome (LIDS). I have noted this from one coast to the other. I even asked a Arizona State Trooper why they rarely used their signals. As you can see from this posting, I am still seeking the truth...and yes, I think I can handle the truth.

2) If using a cell phone is so darn harmful while driving (cell phone use while driving is banned in 17 states...ok I made that number up, but I know it has been banned in some states. Or was it some counties?) Why is it that EVERY law enforcement officerI see is chatting away on a cell phone snugly wedged between his hand and his ear while driving the cruiser not using turn signals. Hey, I think I just found the answer to item 1.
If #2 is the answer to #1, then we should approve a bond issue to authorize bluetooth hands free sets for every law enforcement officer in the world.
I am not looking to have every policeman, sheriff or trooper out to get me. I am merely making that same observation everyone else has made but was too busy to commit it to a blog (yes, I still hate that expression).

If any law enforcement types would like to provide me or any other reader with some insight to your habits and techiniques, please feel free to use this forum to do so.

I truly believe there are those among us that can multi task. Just ask any AH-1F Cobra pilot and they will tell you how hard it is to designate a target from 5000 meters away while giving an eight digit grid coordinate over a sincgars frequency hopping radio all the while the helicopter is sinking towards the desert floor as if being sucked into a brown dusty abyss.....but I digress

Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. Remember, I am looking out for of us, but mostly me.
