Senator Ken Pruitt, honorary member of The Workforce Development Board of the Treasure Coast (WDBTC) board of directors, recently installed three new officers at the June 25 board meeting. Officers for the 2008-09 term include Catherine L. McKenzie, Chair; Soma Gail Melnick, Vice Chair; and T. Patrick Shepherd, Treasurer.
Catherine L. McKenzie, Area Director, AT&T Florida, has been a member of the WBDTC board for nearly four years and has served on the Business Services and Legislative committees. Before relocating to the Treasure Coast, she was active in the Broward Workforce Development Board where she served as Chair from 2002-04.
Soma Gail Melnick, Vice President of Human Resources & Administration, Macho Products, Inc. & MDI Products, L.L.C., has served on the board for six years as an active volunteer including her roles as Chairperson for the Business Services Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. She was recognized by the board with the 2004 Volunteer of the Year and was the recipient of the 2004 Richard L. McLaughlin Award from Florida Economic Development Council, Inc. Her employer has been the recipient of nearly $120,000 in training grants from Enterprise Florida via the WDBTC.
In addition to his seven years on the board of directors, T. Patrick Shepherd, Division Manager, Primerica Financial Services, has previously served as board Treasurer and Chair of the Performance and Evaluation Committee. In his role as an employer and as a WDBTC customer, he has also utilized the organization's resources as a primary hiring source and to facilitate On-The-Job Training (OJT) and Employed Worker Training (EWT) grants. Working with staff and other area employers he assisted in the preliminary development of the Work Certified® program, a work readiness training program.
"Catherine, Soma and Patrick will provide exemplary leadership for our board of directors," explained Gwenda Thompson, President/CEO of the Workforce Development Board of the Treasure Coast. "Their proven track records and insight into the employers' needs and matching a qualified workforce to those needs will play a significant role in helping the Board continue to fulfill our mission."
The Workforce Development Board of the Treasure Coast is a private, nonprofit corporation that coordinates workforce solutions for Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. The mission of the Board is to build an integrated workforce development system for jobseekers and employers by analyzing labor market needs, effectively and efficiently coordinating the delivery of resources, programs and services, and evaluating the results for accountability.
