I received a very special Father's Day gift this year, which is funny, since I'm a Mom! I received a package in the mail the other day, from my step mother Nancy Crowder in Newark, Delaware. It was a box full of treasures from the past.
You see, I lost my father to cancer three years ago, so I don't usually have much to celebrate these days on Father's Day.
My father was very active in scouting throughout his childhood in the Philadelphia area. He served as camp counselor for many years while in boy scouts. He didn't get a chance to see my children now active in scouts. My step mom thought I was the best recepient for these treasures now that my boys are scouts.
I opened the box and was delighted by the contents.A large selection of kerchiefs, slides, patches, and other memorabilia that were my dad's back in the 1950's. I am so thrilled to have these items to now pass down to my sons.
One very special item, a father's Day card I had sent to my Dad in 1994.He never saved cards, so I know this was very meaningful to him.
Thank you for instilling the scouting spirit in me Dad. I am deeply missing you this father's Day.

Loved this story! What a treasure trove of Scouting items. Your dad must have been a loyal Scout. Please display these at Morningside Library for the 100th Anniversary of BSA in Feb. 2010. Best regards, Debra Magrann Troop 445
