Novelist draws crowd at Treasure Coast Mall

On Saturday, March 15, 2008 Port St. Lucie novelist Bette Lee Crosby appeared at the Borders Book Store in the Treasure Coast Mall to meet and greet admirers and sign her novel Girl Child. According to Sean Forde, Store Manager, the event was extremely successful with a sizeable turnout which was reflected in the volume of sales. Forde has called Crosby, "an exciting new voice in fiction," an opinion, he now believes is shared by readers.
Girl Child, Crosby's first release was accorded a First Place Award for Published Fiction at the National League of American Pen Women 2007 Florida Biennial Conference. Since then she has gone on to do numerous speaking engagements and personal appearances in and around the Treasure Coast area. Speaking with book clubs is a favorite with Crosby and she takes pride in the fact that Girl Child was designated the April selection by the Vero Beach Grand Harbor Book Club. On April 9th she will meet with the group, which boasts in excess of thirty members, to join in their discussion.
Following the Grand Harbor Book Club, Crosby will appear at the Vero Beach BookCenter on April 10th for a 4PM presentation on the hopes and heritage of the everyday women she writes about. Her protagonists are generally female, so she knows the subject well. She weaves these stories of ordinary women into tales touched with history and mystery, tales that leave her fans clamoring for more.
"A reader can expect to find three things in almost all of my books," Crosby said, "First, a touch of humor-because life is filled with humor if we take time to see it. Secondly, a peppering of elderly people, because they are extremely wise and delightfully candid in their opinions. And lastly, a sense of poetic justice." Crosby went on to say that her characters don't always get what they're after, and often don't get what the reader expects, but almost always get what they deserve.

Crosby's upcoming novel Cracks in the Sidewalk recently received recognition in the "First Chapter" Contest sponsored by "The Verb" an internet-based writer's forum. According to Judge Elizabeth Guy, Cracks in the Sidewalk "delivers on all counts." JudgeStephen Angeloff claimed the work was, "wonderfully uplifting."
