In the years leading up to the 1950's there were no resources for the challenged. They were placed in asylums or back rooms and left to die. They were never talked about or acknowledged. They were the silent children. The ones no one wanted. The ,ones who never given a chance to live.
Florida Author Yvonne Mason has given us a story of success in a time of failure for the challenged. She has given a voice to a child born in 1952 who became challenged. This young man was not put away.
He was not shunned and he was not ignored. In her book Dream Catcher, Ms. Mason tells of Stan who was never supposed to succeed. He was supposed to fail.
Ms. Mason takes the reader into the life of Stan's family as they deal with an older child as well as a baby who is challenged. She brings to life the pain, heartache and deep emotion of the mother as she learns to cope with Stan. Ms. Mason also brings to life the hope, the love and the deep abiding loyalty of the family as more siblings are added to the mix.
The stories bring tears, laughter, anger and feelings of hope, success and belief that behind all of us there is the ability to succeed even when we feel we can't.
Dream Catcher a book that should be in every home and in every teacher's hands to use as a yardstick for success.
Dream Catcher can be purchased at Amazon.com, Lulu.com as well as Ms. Mason's online store at http://thebookattic.ecrater.com
