Story

9/11 Plus Five
Contributed by: Robert Mack on 9/13/2006

Liberty stands statuesque in the harbor,
With our fore fathers Ellis Isle a neighbor

She is poised with extended arm and torch held tall,
Signifying freedom and liberty for all

On 9/11 the New York skyline changed forever,
A day that Americans will always remember

The World Trade Center was a landmark of commercial pride,
And when the twins fell our hearts broke for those who died

Innocent souls in planes, the towers and first responders in harms way,
Three thousand lost but memories treasured every single day

Today we see a barren and solemn ground zero,
But life will spring renewed in the tomorrow

The Pentagon was also attacked from the skies,
And one year later we saw the Phoenix rise

In the Pennsylvania sky United 93 heroes emblazoned "let's roll",
Stopping terrorism in a lonely field where bells now toll

Lives lost on 9/11 will be forgotten not,
Nor those sacrificing worldwide for freedoms lot
