This I wrote for Dogs and Cats Forever, I dedicate this to all No Kill Shelters...
Their noses are wet and soft to feel
but this pups nose was dried with blood
Each day he waits for any meal
Shivering in rain and caked with mud
No shelter from the bitter cold
No blanket filled with a warm smile
No arms to hold him for a little while
His name is Legend, he's ten monthes old
He no longer plays with the rocks in the road
He no longer sits begging for a bone
He just lies still next to pebbles and stones
Sometimes he's seen through the broken gate
Head down low, his tail in the dirt
Legend never learned to hate
Even when pointed at, yelling, " Hey you hurt?"
"Nah, he's only a dog that don't belong"
"If you let em' in once, they'll stay all night"
" He ain't worth nuthin', just runs and hides"
"Can't even put him in for a bloody fight"
He came with a bat and broke down that gate
He picked up that puppy shaking from cold
He opened his coat praying he wasn't too late
He kissed Legends head like he was the rarest of gold.
