Your Interview Coach Teaches Teens the Ins and Outs of Interviewing
Jan Foselli, owner of Your Interview Coach, was invited to Martin County High School to speak with three classes of high school juniors and seniors about job interviewing.
"I have interviewed a large number of teens during my years as a recruiter. Today's youth are not prepared for the tough questions that employers may ask. I feel by presenting these skills to these teenagers, I am giving back to our local community and preparing them for what they may face."
During Jan's presentation, she shared with them a 5 minute video on the wrong way to interview which prompted a discussion on how NOT to interview. She also shared tips on how to calm your nerves, how to dress, and how to make a positive first impression were shared as well. Jan felt it was important to have the students think about and write about the qualities that make them unique, and the skills they have to offer an employer.
"Look," she said, "even if you are young and inexperienced, you still have valuable skills that you bring to an employer. Think about the activities you are involved in - whether it's your church, a club or sports, you are learning soft skills, hard skills and people skills that will help you in a job setting." Everyone has something that an employer is looking for - the key is to find your special something and share it with your interviewer.
