The relationship between Port St. Lucie High School's Army JROTC Unit and Treasure Coast High School's Air Force JROTC Unit took another extraordinary step forward Friday, November 6, when the two units participated in the first joint service Color Guard for both schools.
St. Lucie Medical Center held its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 12:30 pm and the Joint Color Guard was on hand to present the Colors. The ceremony honored Corporal Ian Zook (USMC), Captain Adam Snyder (US Army), Private First Class Andre McNair (US Army), and First Lieutenant Robert Fletcher (US Army); 4 soldiers who gave their lives for our country. The Nichelson family, whose three sons are all in the military, were also honored for their service and sacrifice. The American Legion presented service star banners to the mothers of all the honorees, and raised the flag to half-staff at the hospital. The mothers of the fallen soldiers were then presented a memorial wreath for their sons, and were assisted by members of the Korean War Veterans Association and TCHS cadets. The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
For the first of what could become many joint Color Guards, PSLHS provided Cadet Captain Laura Maldonado, Cadet Private Shawn Jolly, Cadet Master Sergeant Meghin Mulrooney, and Cadet Sergeant First Class Matthew Jacobson. TCHS provided Cadet 2 nd Lieutenant Michelangelo Liming and Cadet Airman Basic Emily Reeves for the Color Guard. Also in attendance were Cadet Sergeant First Class Diamond Salazar and Cadet 2 nd Lieutenant Andrew Bondi, of PSLHS, and a large Honor Guard comprised of TCHS cadets.
This ceremony was a very touching moment in which everyone realized the sacrifices made in order to protect us. Thank you to all veterans and current soldiers for your service to our country.
