As part of the International Day of Peace, St. Anastasia School Community participated in "Pinwheels for Peace" on September 21. Peace Day is celebrated across the world and has grown to include millions of people in all parts of the world. The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations in 1981 and celebrated for the first time in September of 1982.
"Pinwheels for Peace" is an art installation project started in 2005 by two art teachers in Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and in their lives. The project was quickly embraced by the entire school community and by millions of art teachers, teachers, parents, children and adults who desire peace in the world.
St. Anastasia students created pinwheels during their art time and students in 6th grade and pre-school worked together to "plant" the Pinwheels for Peace in the Butterfly Garden and Courtyard during two special ceremonies. St. Anastasia Church priests Fr. George and Fr. Mark led the students in a short prayer service and blessing. The message of this project was to promote peace in our homes, peace at school, peace at work, peace in our lives by working together.
Located at 401 South 33rd Street in Fort Pierce, St. Anastasia Catholic School serves students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade and is one of 21 schools in the Diocese of Palm Beach. For more information, call (772) 461-2232 or visit the website at www.stanna.org.
