NEW TEACHER REWARDS PROGRAM AT WALMART HELPS 10 TEACHERS AT WINDMILL POINT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OFFSET RISING EXPENSES FOR CLASSROOM SUPPLIES
Teacher Reward Cards Presented to 10 Teachers During an Award Presentation Ceremony at Windmill Point Elementary School
Port St. Lucie, FL, September 24, 2009 - Walmart is helping 10 teachers at Windmill Point Elementary School purchase much-needed classroom supplies through its new Teacher Rewards Program. Selected randomly by the school's principal, Traci Wilke, each teacher was presented with a $100 Teacher Reward Card at an award presentation ceremony at Windmill Point Elementary School. The winning teachers were: Elizabeth Guanchez, Melissa San Martin, Kelly Ernst, Patricia Reardon, Pam Bryant, Daniel Streit, Kimberly Wagner, Veronica Paul, Carol Spaw, and Robin Marmitt.
Nationally, the Teacher Rewards Program will enable Walmart and Sam's Club to provide more than $4 million to 40,000 deserving teachers across the United States.
"Walmart is committed to helping address unmet needs in the communities where we serve," said Christopher Twiner, Assistant Manager of Walmart. "Our support for Windmill Point Elementary School underscores this commitment, and we are hopeful that through the Teacher Rewards Program, these educators will be able to purchase the materials needed for the new school year."
In addition, Mr. Twiner presented the school with a check for $1,000 from the Walmart Foundation Community Grant Program through Walmart Store #4260 (Gatlin Blvd.).
The new Teacher Rewards program is an extension of the retailer's ongoing support of education and local community involvement. In 2008, Walmart, Sam's Club, and the Walmart Foundation gave more that $66 million to fund educational programs and scholarships in communities across the country.
