True Crew Arts & Ed Believed & Achieved!
Contributed by: LJ Danna on 5/28/2007

This was the first season for True Crew Dance Co., and it was definitely a successful one! The dance company, representing True Crew Arts & Ed, L.L.C. began this past August holding classes only one night per week in the Port Saint Lucie Community Center under the direction of " Ms. Toni". Ms. Pressimone is also a St. Lucie County Elementary Educator.

Ms. Pressimone came up with the idea of bringing performing arts education as well as performance and competition opportunities to students in a different way. In most cases, in order for students to be able to succeed in such areas of community performances and competitions, they as well as their families need to devote many evenings per week, not to mention enormous monetary expenses. This is not how True Crew works . True Crew keeps the family, as well as academics, in mind. Ms. Toni has the students meet and practice only one night per week for approximately 1 to 2 hours. By working in this matter, the students apply themselves to their fullest ability while at practice and it then allows them ample time the rest of the week for academics, family time and other activities. This concept worked out great for the True Crew Family during this, their 1st Season together. They finished their season with a Recital/Dinner Performance that entertained over 160+ family members and friends.

True Crew had numerous performance opportunities this past year. They performed at the PSL Fall Festival, PSL Restorative Care, PSL Tree Lights, Festival of Lights Parade and Performance, St. Lucie County Fair, PSL St. Patty's Day Parade and Festival, as well as the MS Walkathon in St. Lucie West.

Further, they experienced their first dance convention in Orlando- JUMP! All ages of students from True Crew took this weekend long dance convention of classes with the stars....NICK LAZZARINI (So You Think You Can Dance 2006 Winner!) MIKE MINERY (This Joint is Jumpin, Tapaholics, etc.), DAN KARATY(SYTYCD Judge and Hip Hop Specialist) and many more. One of the sophomore students, Kayla Kierst, even received a $250.00 Tap Scholarship from Jump!

True Crew also experienced their first competition season together...competing at such competitions as JUMP, Starbound Talent Competition as well as Showstoppers! This season True Crew had a large Production Group of all age students, a Boys Hip Hop Group (5th grade - high school), a Sophomore Group (1st-4th grade) and a Senior Group (5th grade - high school) as well as two soloists and 3 semi performance competitors. Throughout the season True Crew received 1 platinum award, 14 gold awards and 5 silver...what a full first season. Special awards were received by True Crew at Starbound for "Best Kick Line" in a Large Group, and "Most Photogenic"; qualifying for Nationals in Orlando. At Showstoppers their director, Ms. Toni received 1st place overall in Senior Competitive Teacher's Duet/Trio with her son AJ. True Crew further achieved by coming home with 1st Place overall in the Competitive All Male Teen Group, 6th place overall in the Junior Competitive Duet/Trio, 7th place overall in the Junior Competitive Super Group and 10th place overall in the Mini Competitive Small Group qualifying for National Finals at in either Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Anaheim or San Antonio this summer!

True Crew will be holding a summer session as well as continuing their Fall Registration for classes beginning in mid-August. For further information please call Ms. Toni at 772-528-1113 or check out our website at www.truecrew.org .
