FORT PIERCE - The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend the "Great Expectations Book Club," which meets to discuss selected books the first and third Thursday of each month at the Fort Pierce Branch Library at 10 a.m.
· May 1 - "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. This romantic story about what animals can teach people about love is set in a down-at-the-heels traveling circus during the Depression. It includes love, thrills and murder under the big top with an elephant as the heroine.
· May 22 - "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion. The novel is a true story about a marriage during good times and bad. John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion saw their only daughter, Quintana, fall ill with what seemed at first flu, then pneumonia, and then complete septic shock. She was put into an induced coma and placed on life support. Days later, John Gregory Dunne suffered a fatal coronary. This is Didion's story of that time.
New members are always invited to join the book club. Come have coffee and cookies and enjoy a lively book discussion.
