HISTORICAL MUSEUM PRESENTS ARTISTIC REFLECTIONS
Contributed by: Erick Gill SLC Media Relations on 4/28/2008

FORT PIERCE - The St. Lucie County Historical Museum, in collaboration with Lincoln Park Academy, presents Artistic Reflections of St. Lucie County - a historical perspective of art works created by students from both Lincoln Park Academy middle school and high school. The exhibit opens Sunday, May 4, with an open house from 2 - 4 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Historical Museum, 414 Seaway Drive at Museum Pointe Park in Fort Pierce. The Lincoln Park Academy Jazz Ensemble will also entertain at the open house.

Artistic Reflections of St. Lucie County features more than 100 student art works of Native American pottery, portraits, storyteller ceramics, rubbings, pastels and narrative painting-all depicting the people, places, lifestyles and livelihoods of St. Lucie County.

Lincoln Park Academy Middle School Art Teacher Judy Hueter created the year-long student art project to help foster a "sense of place" and promote historical and cultural awareness for St. Lucie County. A grant from the St. Lucie County Education Foundation helped her fund the project, and Lincoln Park Academy High School Teachers Eileen DiTullio and Judy Mauro enthusiastically supported Hueter's project by also encouraging their talented art students to create art works of local history.

The team effort of the three teachers is innovatively revealed in the Artistic Reflections of St. Lucie County exhibit, which runs through Sunday, May 18 in the Museum's special exhibit gallery. The St. Lucie County Historical Museum also features 16 permanent exhibits of local heritage and the 1908 Gardner House.

Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon - 4 p.m. A modest admission is charged: $4 for adults, $3.50 for seniors over 65 and $1.50 for children 6-17 years. Children under 6 are free. Group rates and guided tours are available by appointment.
