It’s a wrap for Natalie, Queen of Scots
Contributed by: Gabriela Chacon on 8/25/2009

STUART, FLA (August 25, 2009) -Production ended Saturday on Natalie, Queen of Scots, the independent feature from Lobsterback Entertainment, after five weeks of filming on Florida's Treasure Coast.

An adventure story for children, Natalie, Queen of Scots is about a spirited nine-year old girl, living in Florida, who escapes to an imaginary world to evade the real-life changes occurring in her world due to the arrival of a new baby sister.

In her fantasies, Natalie is the queen of her own kingdom, and when the ocean knocks down her newest and grandest sandcastle, she decides to fight back and declare war upon it. Among the members of her royal armada are classmates Sara (The Official Artist of the Kingdom) and Nicholas (Slayer of Alligators) -- but they may want more from Natalie's world than she's willing to part with. Threatened from all angles, Natalie struggles to keep peace in her childhood paradise while the world of grown-ups looms precariously closer.

The film showcases the beaches of Hutchinson Island and the many flavors of the towns of the Treasure Coast, where local business, artistic endeavors, and natural surroundings flourish. Why Florida? Director Brian Carroll and producer Serenity Caldwell scouted Florida's east coast in 2007 and fell in love with the coastal towns, their unique locations, and high-caliber local talent. In addition, the level of support the Treasure Coast provided during production allowed the film to be made at its highest quality without over-spending. The economic climate for filming in Florida allows productions to save tremendously on costs and bureaucratic footwork, giving them the freedom to focus on the movie.

Starring in the film as Natalie and her comrades-in-arms are Florida (Port St. Lucie) natives Kelli Marie Carroll, Nicholas DellaCroce, and Samantha Doohan. Veteran short film actor Phil Morales plays Natalie's father. Locals Jennifer Jones (of StarStruck Productions) and Jonathan Cummings play Natalie's mother and step-father, respectively.

"The talent we found in Florida is as good, if not better, than the talent available in Los Angeles," stressed Caldwell.

Carroll agrees, "Watching our three child actors grow into their characters and seeing how much they improved since we began filming has been one of the greatest rewards of making this film. Returning to Florida to make this film and showcasing its beauty, is a dream come true."

Natalie, Queen of Scots is the first full-length feature film from writer/director Carroll and studio Lobsterback Entertainment. A former Treasure Coast resident, Carroll is currently residing in Stuart to finish post-production and continue fundraising to cover the costs of the film. His recent projects include Love Conquers Paul, winner of the Lynn Redgrave Award, and Triptych-A-Tete, a trilogy of short films about writing and literature.

Los Angeles native and producer Serenity Caldwell jumped aboard the project in 2007. A graduate of Hampshire College, Caldwell focused on creating, starring, and producing both film and theatrical works, specializing in low-budget projects with high production value. Over the past five years, she has worked on over thirty film, theatre, and radio productions.

During post-production of the film, Carroll plans to move the Lobsterback Entertainment headquarters from New England to the Treasure Coast.

Filming of NATALIE, QUEEN OF SCOTS began on July 20 and wrapped August 22. The total budget is $250,000 and the production is still seeking investors. Post-production will be done in the Treasure Coast area and the film will be ready by December to debut in several key film festivals, with intent for limited distribution and the possibility of a national distribution campaign.
