On Friday and Saturday, over fifteen thousand people descended on Downtown Jensen Beach, to contribute to the largest turnout in the history of the Pineapple Festival.
American Idol contender,
Kelly Pickler
followup our local celebrity,
Rachel McGoye
, on friday night, in a heart felt performance with songs about her grandmother and her fame. She has really come along way since the Fox SuperShow American Idol, and has fallen into her country roots with grace and style.
Chubby Checker, who can still do the twist at 67 years old, brought a sense of nostalgia to a "standing room only" crowd with some new songs and the old favorites as well. For over 40 years this legend has ignited stages around the world and on Saturday he did it right here on the Treasure Coast. I asked Chubby to some up our little area of the world here and in 3 words he said, "My Kinda Place."
My favorite element of the entire event where the comedians the festival brought in from L.A. I had the priviledge of accompanying all three of them around the event and the afterpartys all weekend. Jon, Chase and Lawrence were stand up genius' and they charmed us all with there wit and drunken banter. On Saturday, Jon showed up as Captian Jack Sparrow, from Pirates of the Carribean, and got us ready for the show. And we were ready!
In all the comotion and with all the people I am proud announce that no one got hurt, and not one person ended up in jail. That, my friends, is the way it should be.
The citizens of Martin County had a blast, the vendors made tons of money and I, well, I would do it all over again.
I have 100's of pictures and a few videos (with horrible sound)on
myspace
if you want to see more.
