Oh the showing of red, white and blue, and joyful American hearts on Saturday at the Civic Center was quite a delight. The Freedomfest parade was sponsored by the Port St Lucie Elks #2658. Bravo to the efforts of these incredible individuals, the event went like clockwork! We are so appreciative of the Elks, as they sponsor our local scouts from pack 420. We hold our pack meetings at their Lennard Road location monthly.
Maybe you were in the crowd. Maybe you were in the parade, but if you were not there dear friend, you missed out on the beautiful celebration of community. We are so fortunate in this country to have so many freedoms. The fact that we all congregated that day to celebrate was heartwarming.
The parade members all braved the heat of the sun, but all perservered to create an event that was a real crowd pleaser.
I enjoyed walking aside our scout float and watching the faces of parade goers. The scouts designed a float that depicted three era's of battle:The Revolutionary war, The Civil War, and The raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. The boys were enthusiastic and full of pride. The crowd shouted "Hooray, for the boyscouts.' It was very touching.
We said hello to old friends and made some new ones. It was a great day of connecting with our friends here in Port St Lucie.
Thank you to everyone who made July 4th,2009 a special memory for us!
