FORT PIERCE - The Fort Pierce Branch Library announces the lineup for "Monday at the Movies" this May. Held every Monday, the library will present a free film, starting at 2 p.m.; complete with popcorn and drinks.
· May 5 - "Parrish," starring Troy Donahue, Claudette Colbert, Karl Malden, Dean Jagger and Connie Stevens. Parrish McLean lives with his mother Ellen on Sal Post's tobacco plantation in the Connecticut River Valley. His mother winds up marrying Sala's rival, Judd Raike, a ruthless planter who wants to drive Sala out of business. Judd insists that Parrish learn the business from the ground up. (Running time: 138 minutes)
· May 12 - "A Place in the Sun," starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Shelley Winters and George Eastman. Young up-and-comer George Eastman is thrust into the blue-collar life of a rich uncle's family business where he's expected to learn the ropes from the bottom up. While paying his dues, Eastman becomes involved with Alice Tripp, a simple, trusting girl on the assembly line. When Eastman is finally introduced to high society, he meets the gorgeous, sophisticated Angela Vickers and promptly forgets all about Alice. Only Alice won't be gotten rid of so easily, especially since their affair is about to result in an unexpected and unwanted dividend. (Running time: 122 minutes)
· May 19 - "From the Terrace," starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. This film stars Newman as Alfred Eaton, an unhappily married financial adviser while Woodward portrays Mary St. John, his promiscuous spouse whose behavior is a result of her husband's inability to provide love and affection, a trait he inherited from his father. Myrna Loy heads up a large supporting cast as Newman's alcoholic mother. (Running time: 149 minutes)
There will be no movie shown on May 26, as the library will be closed for Memorial Day.
Registration is not required and these movies are free.
