Children's Non-Profit...HOMELESS in Port St. Lucie
Contributed by: Christina Zelenke on 9/4/2009

Town Square Academy of Performing Arts at Tradition (A not-for-profit Performing Arts Program) is "HOMELESS".

The fall session is geared up to begin September 14 th and close with a Showcase Performance on Saturday, December 19 th. BUT WHERE?

Originally, renting space at Tradition Town Hall, Core Communities has refused to allow us to continue to use the space after the end of our successful summer session production of "Annie". The PGA Center at PGA in St. Lucie West was going to allow us to occupy space at the facility there. Unfortunately, a PGA Center representative called and informed us that they can no longer accommodate us because like so many others, they have had to cut back on staff.

We have had a successful spring and summer session and the word is spreading about our program. We have had an overwhelming response for the Fall session registration. Calls to register continue to come in daily.

Performing arts programs around the country have many benefits for children and communities. Our program offers children and adults of ALL ages the opportunity to explore their interests and talents in theater, music, art and dance. Programs like ours teach valuable life skills, such as, self-confidence, public speaking and memorization. Through creative expression the students uncover their own unique style and individuality. Our curriculum was developed using many resources, one of which is the Sunshine State Standards. We are committed to making our program one where each student gains new skills and knowledge while being creative and having FUN!

Our program is in desperate need...we are looking for a space of about 2,000 square feet, discounted or rent free that we can call " HOME". We would really love to stay in the Tradition/St. Lucie West area. You can reach the director of the program, Kate Powers at 772-240-8713 or tsapa@mail.org for registration information or to offer our program a helping hand.

We are so proud of this program and the children that we have already had the privilege of working with. PLEASE help us; we do not want to see it end simply because we do not have a space!
