SEA TURTLE WALKS - SIX FOR SIX!
Contributed by: Linda Bolin-Florida Oceanographic on 8/5/2009

Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center's nighttime turtle walks scored six for six! Florida Oceanographic's Education and Exhibit Specialist Michelle Byriel and Master Scout Leslie Blanchard led the remarkable nighttime walks to view nesting loggerhead sea turtles on Hutchinson Island.

Michelle presented an informative educational sea turtle program at the Coastal Center preceding each walk. Soon after she finished the presentation, the spotter's call came in that a loggerhead was on the move to choose a suitable nesting site.

The group enjoyed a front row view of giant threatened loggerheads laying their eggs. Each group witnessed this natural wonder as the huge turtles made their way to their desired beach nesting spots and proceeded with nest construction and egg laying before covering the nest and heading back to the ocean.
