Unity of Martin Co. Debuts Unique Worship Service
Contributed by: Gwen Carden on 5/6/2009

Unity Church of Martin County (UMC) announces the debut of a unique worship service designed to soothe the soul and warm the heart of Treasure Coast residents.

Singing, meditation, original and familiar music and lively congregant interaction will be the benchmarks of the once-monthly Sunday evening service called "Sharing in Community."

"We invite everyone, whether they attend Unity Church of Martin County or not, to come to our service," said The Reverend William Gill, senior minister at UMC. "We expect this service to appeal to people who might not normally attend church or those seeking an alternative way to connect to Spirit."

The service is designed to be informal and extremely interactive, Rev. Gill explained. He will give a short talk, but the rest of the service will be comprised of an extended meditation, sharing among attendees of their thoughts and feelings with one another, and experiential activities that will involve congregants' participation.

Among the unique features of this service, beginning Sunday, May 31 and held at 6:30 p.m. the last Sunday of each month, is the music program. The singing duo, "Connected Souls" with Doreen Poreba and Mike Jordan, will provide a combination of original music written by Poreba and Jordan, as well as cover songs that people will know and be invited to sing along with. To enhance the experience, the lyrics will be projected so attendees can join in the singing.

"Mike and I feel we are connected at a soul level and want to connect to everyone else's soul through our music. Reaching people's hearts is very important to us," said Poreba.

"We want everyone to feel a sense of peace, belonging and love in the atmosphere we hope to create, like being in your own living room," added Jordan.

"We invite everyone to come and check out this service," said Rev. Gill. "It is all inclusive, experiential and should be both a lot of fun and a powerful way for people to reconnect with their faith."
