Church Women United of St. Lucie County will sponsor its annual May Friendship Day Salad Luncheon/Meeting on Friday, May 9, 2008 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1750 S.E. Lennard Rd. , Port St. Lucie. Registration is at 10:00 a.m., meeting at 10:30 a.m., and salad luncheon at noon. Bring a salad to share. Spouses are welcome.
May Friendship Day is an annual event sponsored by Church Women United, a national ecumenical movement of women working for peace and social justice from a Christian basis. The theme of this year's service is "God's Wisdom Inspires Hospitality" centering on Mathew 25:35, "I was a stranger and you welcomed me." The program will present many ways of extending hospitality - to friends and to strangers. Readings, music, group participation, and devotional presentations will emphasize making new friends by intentionally reaching out to others. The logo for this celebration is the pineapple, a universal symbol for hospitality because of early ship captains who brought cargo of pineapples from the tropics to home ports and sharing the exotic fruit with their towns.
This is also the time to bring your "Least Coin" collections. The Fellowship of the Least Coin is a world-wide movement based on the power of prayer and the willingness to set aside just the 'least coin' of a country (a penny in the U.S.) to support initiatives that promote peace and reconciliation in families, work places, and governments.
